AND THERE WAS LIGHT"In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good."
Genesis 1:1-4a
Many people have a hard time believing that this passage of scripture is literal. For centuries, man has been trying to come up with his own explanation of how all this got started. Why is it so hard to believe that what the Bible says is absolutely true? Why can't we accept that it is literal and accurate? There are many answers to that question, but to simplify.....man is willing to believe 'the lie'. Satan has been lying to us since the Garden of Eden and we never learn, we just keep listening. Satan does not want us to believe in a literal, all-powerful God. He does not want us to accept with all our hearts and minds that God's word is truth, because then we would be compelled to abide by it. He tells us things that seem much easier to believe, so we do. After all, isn't it easier to believe that the world and everything in it was the result of some cosmic accident than to believe that there is an all-powerful being that created and controls it all? For many, the answer to that question is yes.
Why is that? Because if we believe in our hearts and minds that God exists and He is the creator of all things, then we too are His creation. And as his creation, we would be obligated to honor Him and obey Him. But because of our rebellious spirit, we don't want to do that. We don't want to be subjected to a set of rules someone sets down for us for how to live our lives. We want to do our own thing, decide for ourselves what is right and wrong. This has been true since the original sin of Adam & Eve. Look at any child and you will see this inherent rebellious spirit.
I had a discussion with someone recently regarding the subject of evolution. He said he believed that God got everything started, but didn't get it quite right, so evolution helped Him along, by perfecting things as all these billions of years have passed. Interesting concept, but not scriptural. When you read these opening passages of Genesis, it repeatedly states that when God saw what He had created, He saw that it was good. That leads me to believe that it was created exactly as He wanted it.
So we have this segment of society who believes that God exists, and they believe He "probably" created the world, but they minimize Him. They don't want to believe that God is perfect, He must have made some mistakes along the way and needed the help of evolution. If they accepted as a fact that God, the creator, is a perfect God, they would have no excuse for living their life apart from Him, contrary to His commanments. They would have to live their lives according to His word. That old rebellious spirit which has been passed from generation to generation since Adam & Eve, will always seek to believe something other than what the Bible teaches us about God.
Furthermore, there is NO scientific proof that evolution is a fact ---- it is a THEORY. It is a BELIEF. I would even go so far as to say it is a RELIGION. Scientists who believe in evoution hold to that through faith that their belief is true. They have no proof. There were no humans here to witness and record for history what happened during the time they project all of this evolution was happening. So they simply believe it. One of the foundational truths about any religion is that it is a belief system.
I have read numerous articles and autobiographies about scientists who spent a good portion of their life trying to prove that the creation account in the Bible is not scientific, and therefore, cannot be true. What most of these scientists come to know eventually, is that there is no other logical explanation. The more they try to disprove it, the more they end up proving it to be correct. Most of them come to the point where they state that there is no way that such order as they find in nature could have happened accidentally, no matter how many years it may have taken to complete.
Another argument I hear is that the Bible is errant in places; some of it is true, but portions of it have been altered through the years, or segments of it are strictly fictional. So there are those who believe some of it, but just can't bring themselves to believe all of it. Therefore, they aren't sure they can take it literally. To them I say, if I can't believe all of it, how can we believe any of it? In response to those who believe that the Bible is not entirely true or accurate I say this:
I either believe ALL of it or NONE of it, because if even just a small portion of it is not true, then how can I know that any of it is? SOLUTION: I must believe that it is ALL true and factual. I believe that the Bible is God's word to us, inspired in the hearts of men who recorded it for us to know.
Therefore, when the Bible says that God created the heaven and the earth and that it was good, then
THAT IS WHAT IS TRUE!"And there was light" Let that light shine into our hearts that we may know and believe.
